MENHIRE VON EUROPA

Ein wahres Freilichtmuseum in Launstroff. Man könnte fast meinen, man sei in der Bretagne mit all den Menhiren: Rund 30 (36, um genau zu sein) säumen einen 8 km langen Rundweg. Aber woher kommen sie? Anfang der 80er Jahre äußerte der deutsche Bildhauer Paul Schneider (1927 - 2021) aus Merzig den Wunsch, einen Skulpturenweg zum Thema Grenze zu schaffen. Der Ort Wellingen-Launstroff eignet sich hervorragend dafür, da er die Besonderheit aufweist, dass mehrere Kilometer Niemandsland die Grenze zwischen Frankreich und Deutschland bilden. 1986 fand ein erstes internationales Bildhauersymposium statt, an dem fünf Künstler teilnahmen: zwei Deutsche, ein Franzose, ein Luxemburger und eine Schweizerin. Seitdem wurden 36 Skulpturen von Künstlern aus 17 verschiedenen Nationen aufgestellt, und zwar unterschiedslos auf beiden Seiten dieser Fontäne, also sowohl in Frankreich als auch in Deutschland. Ein Zeugnis, das beweist, dass Kultur die Fähigkeit hat, Grenzen zu überwinden. Auch Paul Schneiders Wunsch war es stets, dass sich die Skulpturen auf möglichst natürliche Weise in die Landschaft einfügen: "... die Natur braucht diese Skulpturen nicht, aber die Skulpturen brauchen die Natur...", sagt er.
